  6. The MIDI files included with MCS Stereo assume "Extended" MIDI Patch Maps.
  7. Make sure you have chosen the Extended MIDI Patch Map in the Midi Mapper 
  8. Applet of the Control Panel. The Control Panel may be accessed through the 
  9. "Main" group in the Program Manager or by pressing the "Settings" button in
  10. the MCS Stereo MIDI Player.

  13. Normally, if a portion of a WAV file is highlighted, the "Edit Sample" dialog 
  14. box will only play the selected area.  To play the entire file without 
  15. deselecting the currently marked area,  hold the <Ctrl> key while pressing the
  16. "Play" button in the "Edit Sample" dialog box.

  20. Environment switching buttons were added in the Standard Environment and the 
  21. Enhanced Remote control.

  23. The scan buttons for the Remote Control Digital Recorder were changed to skip 
  24. buttons.  Used to skip forward or backward in the current playlist.  (Changed
  25. to maintain functionality consistency between Digital Recorder, CD Player and
  26. MIDI Player controls in the Remote Control)

  30. The manual incorrectly states that Animotion technical support is available on
  31. Compuserve in the Multimedia Vendors forum.  The forum has instead been set up
  32. in the MIDI Vendors forum.  To access Animotion technical support through
  33. Compuserve, type GO ANIMOTION at any CIS prompt.  The BBS number and technical
  34. support policies are still as stated in the manual.

  38. A new section has been added to the MCSINIT.INI file since the manual was 
  39. printed.  You should find the following entries which were not described in 
  40. the manual:

  45. AlwaysCollect=0
  46.  
  47. These entries were added to improve the capabilities of the Edit Sample 
  48. dialog box, which is used for editing WAV files.
  49.  
  50. The first entry, "FastGraph", selects the algorithm used to display the 
  51. waveform.  By default, FastGraph is set to 0.  Change the entry to 
  52. "FastGraph=1" to enable the FastGraph option.
  53.  
  54. If you are using the product on a slower machine or editing large files, you 
  55. may find the FastGraph option provides faster display performance.  
  56. However, the FastGraph option is not as accurate in it's display of the 
  57. waveform.
  58.  
  59. The "InitialDisplayTime" parameter specifies the largest amount of time (in
  60. seconds) that are displayed when the file is initially loaded.  This may be
  61. adjusted from 1 to 999 seconds.

  63. The "AlwaysCollect" parameter is used to control the memory optimization 
  64. functions of the Edit Sample dialog box.  The default value is 0, and should
  65. only be changed if a file seems to "hang" after modifications which alter 
  66. the file's size.

  70. Additional information for users who have attached the output of their
  71. CD-ROM drive to the Auxiliary port of their sound card.
  72.  
  73. If your sound board has a CD audio line-in port, yet you have
  74. found it necessary to attach the audio output of the CD-ROM drive to
  75. the auxiliary line-in port, you will find it impossible to control
  76. the CD Volume in the Enhanced CD player.  This section will detail
  77. how to make MCS Stereo best utilize your sound board's auxliliary
  78. line-in to control the volume of your CD player.
  79.  
  80. The "Volume" section on page 3-23 of the MCS Stereo User's Manual
  81. describes a procedure which assigns the auxiliary port of the sound
  82. card to MCS Stereo's logical CD volume control.  After this operation
  83. the Enhanced CD Player's volume controls will adjust the volume of the
  84. sound card's auxiliary port as will the buttons labeled "CD" on the Remote
  85. Control Mixer.  Because both the Standard Environment Mixer and the
  86. Enhanced Mixer rely, not on MCS Stereo's logical associations, but instead
  87. on the patch names as reported by the sound card's mixer driver, the
  88. user must still adjust the "Aux" sliders to change the CD's volume
  89. when using either the Standard Environment Mixer or the Enhanced Mixer.
  90. Alternatively, the user may also change the default patch names that 
  91. the mixer driver will use to correspond to the changes made in 
  92. the MCSINIT.INI file.  We think that this is a very reasonable
  93. solution that most users would prefer.

  95. The following instructions are meant for those who have the problem
  96. described above. These instructions are to supercede those given on 
  97. page 3-23 of the manual.

  99.    Step 1.  Install MCS Stereo if has not been previously installed.

  102.    Step 2.  Switch MCS Stereo's logical auxiliary and CD associations
  103.    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  104.      a) Use Windows' notepad (or any other editor which will write
  105.         straight ASCII files) and load "MCSINIT.INI" from the directory
  106.         containing Windows.
  107.  
  108.      b) Locate the  [LINECONFIG] section and examine the entries 
  109.         labled "CD_AUDIO" and "AUXILIARY", then swap the line
  110.         numbers associated with both devices.
  111.  
  112.         Example: If your sound board is a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum,
  113.         then you would make AUXILIARY=LINEIN03 and CD_AUDIO=LINEIN02 as
  114.         demonstrated below.

  129.     Step 3.  Changing the default mixer driver patch names.
  130.     -------------------------------------------------------
  131.      a) Search for the [drivers] section in the file  "SYSTEM.INI" located
  132.         in the directory where Windows has been installed.  Locate the
  133.         "mixer" entry in the [drivers] section and note the filename
  134.         that has been assigned to the "mixer" entry.
  135.  
  136.      b)  Use an editor capable of writing straight ASCII to edit "WIN.INI"
  137.          located in the directory where Windows was installed.  Find the
  138.          section name corresponding to the filename found in step 3a.
  139.  
  140.      c)  After finding the appropriate section name, search the section's
  141.          "LineIn" entries for the patch names of "AUX" and "CD". 
  142.          (The patch names appear in the first field immediately after
  143.          the '=' on each line.)  Next, swap the numbers associated with
  144.          these patches.

  146.         Example: If your sound board is a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum,
  147.         then you would replace the '3' in the line that contains 
  148.         "LineIn3=AUX" to  '4' and you would replace the '4' in the line
  149.         that contains "LineIn4=CD" to '3' as show below.
